End of term concert

Our end of term concert was held on Saturday July 3rd in the Ariel Theatre. The retiring collection was for SaMS funds, and most SaMS groups performed, as well as a guest appearance by the Peninsula Clarinet Choir led by Marina van E Kummer. You can read the concert programme here.

Jazz concert

To mark the 10th anniversary of SaMS there was a Jazz Concert jointly with KEVICC and SaMS on Thursday May 27th 2010 at the Ariel Centre. This featured SaMS jazz groups, KEVICC Big Band and some small groups of KEVICC, SaMS and ex-SaMS students, many of whom are in their last year at school before moving on to College or University. The performers were aged from 8 to 18, and the level of playing was impressive; many of the older students have reached a very high standard.

The concert was in aid of ShelterBox, a Cornwall based charity that has done so much to help the victims of disasters such as the Haiti earthquake; check out their website www.shelterbox.org for more information. We raised £563 - this is enough to pay for one whole ShelterBox and part of another.

SaMS Christmas concert

We had a fantastic concert at the end of the SaMS Christmas term, with some wonderful playing from all the performers, and a very appreciative audience. We raised £341.50 for the Harry Wilson-Deane Memorial Fund at CLiC Sargent. We are delighted to be able to contribute to the fund - Harry was a former SaMS and KEVICC student who died of cancer recently.

We were especially pleased that Steve Verge was able to come to the concert, and it was lovely to see him making such good progress and being so optimistic about his future recovery. He hopes to be back at SaMS just after the February half term. Steve is one of our guitar tutors and was recently involved in a serious road accident.

Here are some pictures of SaMS groups performing in the concert. You can read the programme of the concert as an Adobe pdf file.

Newsletters

SaMS produces a newsletter each term. This gives details of any changes to SaMS workshops, lessons, tutors or other arrangements; information about concerts; news of other musical events coming up in the area; information about other local opportunities for young musicians; reports by students on their experiences in SaMS and elsewhere; and other information of interest.

SaMS students and their parents should make sure they read the newsletter soon after it is issued as it contains some important information. Students are given copies to take home but if you find you have missed it you can read it here.

Click on the links below to read our newsletters; they are in Adobe pdf format. The most recent come first.
