SaMS Christmas concert
We had a fantastic concert at the end of the SaMS Christmas term, with some wonderful playing from all the performers, and a very appreciative audience. We raised £341.50 for the Harry Wilson-Deane Memorial Fund at CLiC Sargent. We are delighted to be able to contribute to the fund - Harry was a former SaMS and KEVICC student who died of cancer recently.
We were especially pleased that Steve Verge was able to come to the concert, and it was lovely to see him making such good progress and being so optimistic about his future recovery. He hopes to be back at SaMS just after the February half term. Steve is one of our guitar tutors and was recently involved in a serious road accident.
Here are some pictures of SaMS groups performing in the concert. You can read the programme of the concert as an Adobe pdf file.
SaMS Annual General Meeting
Our AGM took place on Saturday 30th January 2010. The minutes will be available shortly. In the meantime, you can download the AGM agenda here, and the minutes of the previous AGM. Both documents are in Adobe pdf format.
SaMS percussionists in South West Music School
South West Music School is part of a national scheme for exceptionally talented young musicians. Three SaMS percussion students - Harriet Riley, Kizzy Brooks and Molly Lopresti-Richards - have gained places in this prestigious ensemble.
Harriet, Kizzy and Molly, with the KEVICC Percussion Group, performed at a Young Artist Showcase concert at Dartington Hall on 8th November 2009. For more information see the South West Music School website.
Harriet has written about her experiences with South West Music School in our Summer newsletter.
Newsletters
SaMS produces a newsletter each term. This gives details of any changes to SaMS workshops, lessons, tutors or other arrangements; information about concerts; news of other musical events coming up in the area; information about other local opportunities for young musicians; reports by students on their experiences in SaMS and elsewhere; and other information of interest.
SaMS students and their parents should make sure they read the newsletter soon after it is issued as it contains some important information. Students are given copies to take home but if you find you have missed it you can read it here.
